Farmer Chat
This is one of those good news stories from AI, thanks to the UN Behavioural Science team.
Imagine you are a farmer in Africa, growing maize, chickens or keeping cattle.
Where do you go for advice on what to do, or whether things are OK, or not? Most (45%) turn to their family and friends, 43% rely on social media and 33% on an extension worker.
Welcome Farmer.Chat, an AI Chatbot designed by Digital Green, with an aim to transform farmers outcomes in the deepest Africa, through AI enabled Text, image or voice seach:
→ Wondering how to improve the yield from your Milk Cows?
→ Interested in what to feed your chickens?
→ Or why your avocado looks the way it does?
Then the AI enabled platform gives you tailored advice. Whether to add greens to your Chickens diet, when to breed your cattle or add Dudu dust to reduce ants and help your chicks thrive.
It also gives weather and other farming advice.
83% of those surveyed (see report below) reported that it met most/all of their needs, as a farmer.
The biggest frustrations relate to trust (posting a picture, and not getting a response), or access (sub-Saharan Africa can be expensive for data plans).
Best of all, farmers who use it spread the word, and its impact to their friends, family and colleagues.
Doubling your yield from one sack to two may not seem like much, but it is life changing for some of the farmers, delivering the advice when they need it.
This reduces food scarcity and creates income in communities that need it most, by scaling knowledge to help farmers improve their yield.
How could democratising information transform your business, or your practice, moving decision-making to the lowest levels and empowering your front line teams?
