Keeping a Tomato Plant Alive
This is one of those wholesome, expensive as test, but very scalable uses of AI.
Martin Devido, a developer wondered whether AI could keep a tomato plant alive, ensuring it had just what it needed to thrive.
He set up sensors that help AI monitor temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide, soil moisture, and leaf conditions.
The setup runs constantly, 24/7, checking the sensors every 15–30 minutes.
A hardware failure that shut down the lights, heating and airflow was quickly fixed and the plant stabilised.
Although this is a home setup and a bit of fun, it gives a window into the potential of AI-driven automation in agriculture, enabling continuous plant care, improved efficiency, and healthier growth with minimal human supervision and support.
