A recent NBC News article highlights how AI-generated content is quietly but rapidly entering political campaigns, especially in the run-up to the 2026 midterms.
At least a dozen campaign ads ,using AI, have already been deployed across local, state and national races.
They range from harmless visual effects to more controversial uses like voice cloning and deepfake-style videos of opponents saying things they never said.
The technology has been emerging over the last two years, its use to sway a political race is unsurprising.
The most worrying factor is the lack of regulation and how easy it may be to mislead voters, bluring the linees between satire, attack ads and deliberate misinformation. Few disclose the use of AI

AI is a powerful tool in shifting perceptions and nudging beliefs, and can be dangerous in the hands of bad actors.
Add in the sheer monetary ($$$) and ideological value that rides on national elections and it is natural that each side will want to use it for their own benefit.
